Program Development
Technology & Infrastructure
Building reliable systems, managing assets, and getting creative to maximize technology in a world of constraints
Technology That Served the Program
Technology was never allowed to get in the way of delivering a WoW program. The team approached technology and infrastructure with a startup mentality, building quickly, testing in the room, and upgrading fast when something did not work. Rather than waiting for the ideal system or platform, the team maximized the technology that was available and worked around constraints imposed by system configurations and/or limitations.
How the Team Worked
Iterative Approach
The team built and updated solutions quickly, favoring frequent, incremental improvements over large, course-wide upgrades.
Comfortable with Failure
The team treated failure as a normal part of the process, a signal for the next iteration and a source for key learnings.
Adaptable
As MSF's systems, tools, and constraints changed, the team adjusted its approach rather than waiting for ideal conditions to build.
Kept Things Light
Because many WoW participants joined Virtual Program sessions from resource-poor settings, the team favored low-bandwidth, low-friction tools over heavier alternatives.
Prototyping Before Scaling
New formats and tools were trialed in a single session or cohort so key learnings could be tested before committing resources and a general rollout.
Repurposed Materials
Key assets were built as stand-alone items that could be reused across WoW programs, keeping visual identity and messaging consistent while saving significant production time as the program scaled.
Participant-Centered
Every technology decision was filtered through one question: did it serve the participant experience.
Trained Both Sides
The team trained WoW facilitators and WoW participants alike on how to use the technology, rather than assuming familiarity with any given tool.
Infrastructure at Scale
Delivering a 10-week WoW program required an extensive library of bilingual (English and French) supporting materials. The team designed, tracked, and produced a video library, digital workbooks and PDFs, interactive resources, presentations, and facilitator guides for every module of every course.
Individual assets designed, tracked, and produced for the WoW 1 alone included video, digital workbooks, interactive resources, presentations, and facilitator guides across 14 modules.
The Toolkit
The team drew on a wide range of software and platforms to design, build, and deliver the WoW program, adopting new tools as needs evolved.
